Architecture Lecture 2024

16 August 2024

‘Housing to benefit the environment and public’

The 2024 architecture lecture will be given by Cany Ash and Robert Sakula the two co-founding partners of Ash Sakula Architects , one of the UK’s leading housing and regeneration architects.

With the governments initiative to significantly increase the number of new homes being built over the next five years the involvement of good housing designers in this challenging goal will be essential to its successful achievement. Cany and Robert will be explaining their unique approach and experiences of building successful communities and fostering convivial neighbourhoods through people centred design.

The practice has completed a wide range of commissions ranging from single houses, modest housing schemes in country towns to large multiple housing in city centres.  The practice has a keen focus on making its schemes exhibit environmental best practice, create sustainable neighbourhoods, and provide wider public good.

The practice projects include:

The Malings, Newcastle-upon- Tyne (Winner of the 2016 Housing Design Award);

Wickside, Hackney Wick, London (Overall Winner in the 2017 New London Architecture Awards);

A recent notable commission has been it’s work for the team assembled by the developers Human Nature to create The Phoenix Project in Lewes (which was the subject of a lecture held for Society Members in Autumn 2023).  This work has included obtaining detailed planning permission for a neighbourhood of 44 low carbon homes which has been approved by the South Downs National Park which will kickstart the ambitious 700 home scheme.

We hope you can attend for what should be a very stimulating lecture
