The Legacy of Architect George Edmund Street: Victorian Gothic Revival Mastermind

The Surrey Churches Preservation Trust (SCPT) on Saturday, 16th November 2024, 10:30am at St Mary’s Church, Holmbury St Mary, is holding a public talk on the life and work of George Edmund Street. The talk, led by Richard Peats, Principal Inspector at Historic England, will shine a spotlight on Street’s lasting impact on Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. Known for his innovative church designs and attention to detail, Street was a pioneer whose influence is still seen today in many ecclesiastical buildings across the UK.  His best know work is The Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand London.

Tickets are priced at £12 for general admission, £8 for Surrey Churches Preservation Trust (SCPT) members, and £30 for a group ticket (three non-members). All funds raised will go towards supporting the SCPT’s mission of conserving Surrey’s historic churches. Surrey Hills National Landscape Symposium

Surrey Hills National Landscape (previous the Surrey Hills AONB) Is holding a Symposium on the theme of ‘Nature Calling: A Vision for our Future Landscape’.

17:00hrs Wednesday 13th November at the University of Surrey.

This is an opportunity to be part of the conversation that shapes the future of our protected landscapes and countryside, including the next Surrey Hills National Landscape Management Plan.

 Topics to be covered include

  • Sustainable well-being and post-growth economies
  • Thinking about the future of landscapes
  • Nature-based solutions to tackle the climate, health, and biodiversity crises
  • The future of sustainable agriculture
  • Surrey Hills Arts projects

Tree Planting

Surrey County council are looking for Volunters to support Tree Planting events across Surrey this season, and have two events coming shortly in the Gatwick Airport/Horley area.  These events provide a great opportunity to connect and contribute with the local community and also to practise some tree planting skills
