The Department of Transport has announced that the deadline for the decision on the go ahead for the M25/A3 Junction 10 upgrade has been extended from 12 January 2021 to 12 May 2021 and then to 12 November 2021 and now to 12 May 2022; A delay of a year!!
The decision to set a new deadline is without prejudice to the decision on whether to grant development consent.
Outstanding issues appear to include appropriate provision of replacement land to compensate for the proposed special category land to be compulsorily purchased.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), from a statement on their website, still have major concerns related to the destruction of trees due to the road being widened. The proposed works would entail 17 Grade II trees being felled and others being put at risk.
Improvements to Junction 10 impact transport and access plans to redevelop Wisley Airfield.
More generally the upgrade of the A3 was seen as a key enabler for several of the Strategic Sites in the Local Plan. Plans for the A3 are increasingly unclear and must put at risk key elements of the Local Plan.
