The government is consulting on a White Paper that proposes major changes to the plannning system. The Society will be responding by the end of October. The White Paper has prompted mixed reactions.
The Society is on inital review has concerns on the new Planning System related to:
a) Simplistic Standard Method Calculations
b) What the local Design Codes are going to cover is unclear - more detail is due to emerge shortly
c) The Zoning system proposed doesn't appear to offer substantail benefits compared the curret Site based system
d) Much is made of making Local involvment better in planning decisions but how this will work in practice is unclear - a first reading shows Local Councilors will have less involvment.
The D&H and Planning groups in the society are developing a full reposnse to the consultaion which will be posted on the site shortly

Pressures for development are increasing. Planning rules are being eased. The Society’s commitment to standing up for Guildford is needed more than ever.
