PWC the international Consulting and Accountancy organisation are running a annual survey of green jobs in the UK economy, it's Green Jobs Barometer.
The latest survey has just been published which reveals the number of jobs being created in the renewable energy industry is growing four times faster than the overall UK employment market. The data shows that 2.2% of all new UK jobs can be classified as “green”. 336,000 roles which can be classified as Green have been advertised in the past year, triple the number for the previous year.
It is notable that circa 100,000 of the of the roles were advertised as based in the London and the Southeast. PwC comment that, by volume of jobs, London and the south-east were “pulling away from the rest of the country”, although as a proportion of the workforce Scotland has the highest proportion of green jobs at 3.3%
Earlier in 2022 the government said its newly formed Green Jobs Delivery Group would aim to support the formation of “up to 480,000 skilled green jobs” by 2030; when it is hoped that 95% of electricity will be low carbon and £100bn of private investment can be unlocked.
