In the Local Plan Policy A10 it is allocated for housing. The site has been used for many years as a Public Car Park servicing the University, and the Station.
Allocation
(1) Approximately 160 homes (C3)
(2) A multi storey car park (with approximately 450 parking spaces)
Requirements include
(1) Preserve important views, including from the Castle across to the Cathedral
(2) A through route for buses maintained from the Town to the University
(3) Retention of public car parking
(4) Incorporate route for the Sustainable Movement Corridor, having regard to the Sustainable Movement Corridor Supplementary Planning Document
Opportunities include
(1) Provide additional affordable homes
(2) Improvements to landscaping and biodiversity given the full extent of hardstanding on this site
(3) Create the connection to a new pedestrian and cycle route between this site and the Land west of Guildford railway station site

The council consented planning permission for a redevelopment as XXXXXXX
Initial work on site clearance of Lock Up Garages and building Retention Walls has been concluded.
Work has been paused as the proposed scheme was thought to provide a overprovison of parking and also had design issues. A new scheme has been prpepared with assistance from BDP Architects.
