The University of Surrey has finally announced that it is starting a course that provides a full four year degree in medicine. Surrey is setting up an independent medical school,the majority of places, initially, will be for oversees applicants. UK numbers will be restricted to a small number from underrepresented groups enabling access to a career in medicine.
The University aspiration in the longer term is have funded places available for UK students.
The Medical Program will be operated in partnership with the University of Exeter which already has a well-established medical program.
The NHS in the form of the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership, Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Frimley Park Hospital will all be partnering the new Medical School
