Comment:

Difficult site in a flood zone so building is over a car park.

The proposal is to errect a five storey office building, with undercroft parking, plant, reception area and escape access point provided at ground floor level, and office space above on four floors.

Unusually the building is cantilevered above ground floor level, using Masts and tie rods white painted metal, and all built footprint is within that of the existing bus garage. The proposal will be a contemporary design.

Access will be by the existing entrance, with footpaths extended into the site and pedestrian crossing provided on the internal road.

A 10m buffer between the riverbank and proposed development has been introduced to provide both access to the river bank and an ecological corridor., with greenspace provided to the north of the site.

Guildford Society Comments

We welcome high quality new offices near the Town Centre.  How the facilities provided by the exisiting Bus Garage are to be re-provided is not detailed.  Buses are a key part of the transport system in the town and space is needed to service the vehicles and provide parking.

There is a desire to increase access to the River Wey it is not clear if this development aids this aspiration.

The riveside development on the oppposite bank of the river may also impact the development by its proposals to allow for a new bridge accross the Wey (See link to site below)
